Best Foot Forward: World Balance ST1 "The Shot"
Another colorway of the World Balance ST1 is about to drop this April 15 and it is a very famous colorway especially for sneakerheads particularly in the field of basketball.
This black/red colorway also known as "breds" of the WB ST1 is dubbed as "The Shot" which is very fitting for Scottie since this is the colorway that he wore during the game against San Miguel at the Commissioner's Cup. It was coming from a jump ball with less that 10 seconds remaining. A pass made by Brownlee to Scottie in the left corner with the play-by-play announcer yelled "A shot by Thompson". The shot went in and the crowd erupted sealing the game <WATCH HERE> to advance the next round and eventually getting another championship.
For the shoe, we have a black based colorway for the upper which is made from a ripstop like material with a knit construction underneath that gives a bootie construction. There is no traditional tongue but it gives a snug and sock-like fit and makes the shoe light. If you know me, I love black-based colorways in a basketball shoe, so this is right up my alley. Another great design aspect here is the heel area which contains his mantras HARDWORK, DISCIPLINE, and FAITH having an iridescent effect. A small design touch since it somewhat breaks the black color from being too much and making it eye catching especially if you like story-telling details in a shoe. The red accents can be seen on the Lateral Swaybar, a cage placed on the lateral side of the shoe which is made from TPU. It helps with the containment and I would say that it does get the job done. In a lightweight shoe like the ST1, you need this to make the shoe supportive especially if you are nimble and always on the move. It helps your foot from leaving the footbed during quick cuts, jab steps, or sudden change of direction. As for cushioning, S-Ride which is a form of EVA foam was used here and it gives the shoe the right amount responsiveness and impact protection. I already made a performance review on the launch colorway and I have no complaints after games since it gives enough impact protection for me. Underneath is a solid rubber outsole with herringbone traction pattern. The rubber is thick and ideal for both indoor and outdoor use.
The shoe drops this April 15 for a retail price of Php 3,499 at select World Balance stores and on their website. I personally think that is another great colorway for the ST1. The breds colorway has always been associated with greatness and seeing how Scottie play, I am pretty sure that he will continue to strive for greatness throughout his playing career through his mantra.
